OPINION – As a Paradise Valley resident, I am increasingly concerned about road safety in our town, particularly along Palo Christi.
This beautiful neighborhood street is a popular route for local walkers, runners, cyclists and guests of The Hermosa Inn — and it has long been a favored training route for local high school and college runners and cyclists as well. It should be one of the safest and most enjoyable areas in our community, not a source of worry.
In recent months, however, there has been a noticeable rise in speeding by drivers and construction crews. Our police department has stopped multiple vehicles traveling over 70 mph in a 30 mph zone on Palo Christi. That level of reckless speeding on a narrow residential street creates an unacceptable risk to families, young athletes and visitors.

That level of reckless speeding on a narrow residential street creates an unacceptable risk to families, young athletes and visitors.
Now is the time for the town to prioritize additional traffic-calming and safety measures on Palo Christi and other vulnerable neighborhood streets. Whether through increased enforcement, speed mitigation tools or improved signage, we should not wait until a serious injury or tragedy occurs before acting.
Paradise Valley is a community that values safety, respect and quality of life. By taking proactive steps now, we can help ensure our roads reflect those values and remain safe for everyone who lives, trains and visits here.
