Carson Rose, a fifth-grader at Phoenix Country Day School in the Town of Paradise Valley, recently captured his second straight Arizona State Free Throw Shooting Contest in the Boy’s 10-11 Division.
The event is a national competition that the country’s Elks Clubs put on each year. After winning his local and regional competition, Carson faced off against the winners of the North, South and West regions in Apache Junction.
There he made 21 of 25 shots to capture the title. All free throws use a regulation basketball and are shot from the NBA line, according to a press release.

Last year, Carson made all 25 shots to win state and then headed to Las Vegas to square off against fellow state winners from Utah, Nevada, California and Hawaii. He finished second, losing by only one shot.
In mid-March, Carson will head back to Las Vegas with a chance to avenge the loss with a trip to the National Finals on the line in Chicago on April 18. Winners there get their name placed in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
This year marks the third year in a row a Rose brother has captured the state title in the 10-11 division. Prior to Carson’s back-to-back victories, his older brother Logan, also a Phoenix Country Day student, won the same contest.
