Water-saving tips for Phoenicians in face of likely Colorado River cuts

Posted

OPINION — The future of the Colorado River continues to highlight the importance of long-term planning, responsible water management and conservation across our state.

While long-term challenges remain, I want residents to know that this update does not change water service for Phoenix customers. Phoenix has spent decades preparing for water challenges through strategic investments in infrastructure, groundwater storage, conservation efforts, a diversified water portfolio and innovative projects that strengthen our long-term water security.

While Phoenix remains prepared, continued conservation is essential. The choices we make today help strengthen our resilience and ensure we can protect this precious resource for generations to come.

As a reminder, here are a few ways we can all help protect our shared water future:

• Find and fix leaks — small drips can become significant water losses over time.

• Check your water bill monthly — unexpected changes can help identify potential issues early.

• Choose native desert plants — they are naturally adapted to our environment and require less water.

• Use a smart irrigation controller — efficient watering practices can make a measurable difference.

• Share the desert water mindset — conservation grows when we continue learning and encouraging others to make water-wise choices.

Every action, no matter how small, contributes to a stronger and more sustainable Phoenix. I encourage you to explore the city’s water-conservation resources and learn more about how we can all continue being PHX Water Smart.
