Amanda Wade and Anna Van Hoek are locked in a virtual dead heat for two Higley USD Governing Board seats, just ahead of their opponents, through the Nov. 14 vote drop.
Wade has 26% of the vote on 11,621 votes, just ahead of Van Hoek, also at 26% but on 11,458 votes. Brooke Garrett (24%) and Roy Morales (24%) trail by fewer than 2,000 votes each.
Wade said she hopes the margin is enough to hold on.
"I taught Government for 10 years, so I feel like I'm used to watching elections," she said. "Part of me goes, I don't want to get my hopes up too soon because I understand the demographics of who votes day of and mailing ballots and all that jazz."
The four candidates are vying for two seats on the governing board. The race has no incumbents running for re-elected as President Amy Kaylor and Board Member Jill Wilson opted not to run again.
The count was 35,018 after the Monday night drop with a turnout of 67.29%. Final unofficial results may not be known for a couple days. The results become official when the canvass is accepted.
