Phoenix Police warn about photo radar citation scam

Posted

The Phoenix Police Department is urging residents to be on the lookout for a new scam involving photo radar citation scams, according to a release on Wednesday.

Phoenix began issuing citations for photo radar violations on March 25. Since then, Phoenix Police has received increasing reports about scam texts, phone calls, and emails demanding payment for alleged violations.

In these scams, the sender claims the recipient committed a speeding violation and must pay a fine through a link provided in the message.

The Phoenix Police Department does not contact individuals about photo safety camera violations by phone, text, or email. Legitimate citations are issued only by mail from the Phoenix Municipal Court.

Anyone who receives one of these messages should report it as spam to their mobile or email provider and avoid clicking on any links. Individuals who believe they are victims of this scam may file a police report online or call the non‑emergency number at 602-262‑6151.
