The number of new weekly coronavirus cases reported in Goodyear’s 85338 and 85395 ZIP codes rose by eight during the week ending Friday, April 2, the Arizona Department of Health Services reported.
That brings the total number of cases reported in the community to 11,152.
Numbers in each ZIP code rose from 11,144 to 11,163 from March 26 to 29, then stayed the same through April 1, before dropping to 11,152 on April 2.
ADHS Public Information Officer Holly Poynter said in September that fluctuating numbers are not uncommon.
“Cases are assigned based on the primary residence address for an individual patient. Address information can be updated throughout a case investigation,” she said. “Sometimes this won't be identified until later in an investigation because the ‘home address’ is often used on things like insurance, which may filter down to the lab report.”
On April 1, she said while it may not look like numbers are being updated on the state's daily ZIP code map, “please keep in mind there may not be variation in each ZIP code every day.”
The agency said more than 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient’s residence:
