Man charged for hiding camera in bathroom of Peoria gym

Posted

A member of a north Peoria gym has been arrested and charged on suspicion of installing a small camera inside one of the building’s restrooms.

Cave Creek resident Michael Louis Wilson has been charged with one count of voyeurism and one count of surreptitious photographing, videotaping, filming or digitally recording, according to Maricopa County Justice Court. Both charges are Class 5 Felonies.

Court documents say that on or around Jan. 27, Wilson secretly recorded a woman without her consent in a restroom where she had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

The alleged incident happened at a gym near Happy Valley Road and Lake Pleasant Parkway.

Wilson was arrested Jan. 28 on suspicion of hiding the camera inside a diaper-changing station that recorded one of the gym’s employees. Then an employee noticed electrical tape sticking out from the station and discovered a mini spy camera attached with velcro, according to documents.

Footage from the device showed a suspect resembling Wilson setting up the device, and police said the gym’s security cameras and showed Wilson near the bathroom during the incident.

Business records showed Wilson as a member of the gym.

Police say they found two recording devices in Wilson’s home similar to the one found in the gym’s bathroom.
