Goodyear city manager to retire in 2026

Posted

Goodyear City Manager Wynette Reed will retire in March 2026, concluding a nearly four-decade career in public service, city officials announced Tuesday.

Reed, who has served as Goodyear’s city manager since February 2023, will step down effective March 6, 2026. Her retirement follows a 39-year career in municipal government, including more than a decade with the city of Goodyear.

"It has been my deepest honor to serve as city manager for this great city," stated Reed. "Not everyone gets to witness the hard work and heart that our city team pours into running Goodyear behind the scenes, but I've had the profound privilege of overseeing that effort every day, and I couldn't be prouder of all we've accomplished together. To our entire community, thank you for placing your trust in the vital work we do each and every day; it has been the greatest reward of my career."

Reed joined Goodyear in 2011 as human resources director and became deputy city manager in 2013. In her time with the city, she has overseen all departments and helped guide Goodyear through a period of rapid growth. The city is currently ranked as the ninth fastest-growing in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

City officials credit Reed with leading several major initiatives, including the development of Goodyear’s new downtown area known as GSQ, a successful bond election to fund public safety and transportation projects, and the launch of a microtransit program. Her administration also oversaw expansion of ambulance services and the establishment of a partnership with Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Center.

"Wynette will be truly missed. She has been pivotal in leading our team, and we couldn't have done it without her or the incredible team she has built," stated Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo. "I wish her nothing but the best for a successful career and a well-deserved retirement filled with new adventures."

The Goodyear City Council plans to appoint a subcommittee to manage a national recruitment process for Reed’s replacement. A transition plan will be implemented to maintain continuity during the search.
