Goodyear's longtime city attorney and one of the city’s highest-paid employees is getting a pay raise.

Goodyear City Council voted unanimously to increase City Attorney Roric Massey’s pay by 7.5% “in accordance with a pay raise given to all the city employees in this next fiscal year,” Councilmember Bill Stipp said at a special meeting on Monday.

Massey has been with the city since 2001 and takes home $223,853 a year, before his bump in pay, which has been increased to a little over $240,641 annually.

He’s the second-top paid Goodyear employee after City Manager Julie Karins, who makes $243,153, according to data compiled by the Independent ranking city worker pay across Valley cities.

In 2021, Massey was the 17th highest-paid city employee in the entire Valley.

A city attorney provides legal counsel to the mayor and city council, city manager and other employees and departments within the city.

Goodyear council members met on June 27 to discuss Massey’s pay in a closed-door meeting. They emerged after about 45 minutes to unanimously approve the pay increase.
