There will be spring training in Glendale, as early as this Sunday.
Camelback Ranch-Glendale, the spring training home of the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, announced Friday evening the new revised schedule for 16 games. The first game of the spring gets under way Friday, March 18, when the Dodgers play host to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Game times will be announced next week.
It’s also go-time for stadiums like Camelback Ranch-Glendale.
“All along we were ready to open on Feb. 26. If there’s such a thing as two-week old cobwebs, we’re dusting off the cobwebs,” Matt Slatus, Camelback Ranch-Glendale’s president and general manager, said Friday evening shortly after the schedule was released. “We’re making sure tickets are back on sale, that fans have access to affordable seats, fans have access to the best seats. We’re doing things like getting hot dogs and concessions stands, attaching beer lines to kegs, just finishing touches to get the ballpark ready.”
Players are required to report by Sunday, March 13 at the latest, but Slatus said Friday, “We’re starting to see guys trickle in.”
Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association reached a new collective bargaining agreement on Thursday to halt a 99-day owner-imposed lockout that was the second longest labor dispute in league history.
Camelback Ranch-Glendale will open its 14th season as the spring home of the White Sox and Dodgers, both of whom made the playoffs last season.
The Dodgers, winners of 106 games during their 2021 wild card season, open the abbreviated schedule in Glendale when they host the defending NL Central Division champion Brewers on March 18.
The defending AL Central Division champion White Sox’ home opener in Glendale is the next day when Cleveland makes its first appearance as the Guardians on Saturday, March 19.
The Dodgers and White Sox face each other twice — Monday, March 21 and Sunday, March 27.
Also visiting Glendale this spring are the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers.
Morning Workouts — The Camelback-Ranch campus, largest in the Cactus League, opens to the public every day at 9 a.m. for morning workouts on the practice fields beginning Sunday, March 13.
