The Major League Baseball lockout has claimed the first eight games of the spring training season at Surprise Stadium, 15960 N. Bullard Ave.
MLB announced on Feb. 18 that all games will be canceled through March 4. If the lockout is lifted, games could resume as early as March 5.
That means the opening day charity game for the Sundancers between the two home teams, the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals, will not be played. The two teams also won’t play each other on March 3.
Other games affected include San Francisco Giants vs. Royals (Feb. 27), Arizona Diamondbacks vs. the Royals and Colorado Rockies vs. Rangers (both Feb. 28), Chicago Cubs vs. Rangers (March 1), San Diego Padres vs. Royals (March 2) and Milwaukee Brewers vs. the Royals (March 4).
The city hasn’t immediately released information on refunds for the canceled games.
If the season resumes Saturday, March 5, the first game would be the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the Rangers at 1:05 p.m.
The Royals’ first appearance would be Sunday, March 6 against the Los Angeles Angels.
