Over the last few months, city officials have been preparing to annex nearly 200 acres of Arizona State Land into the city, at the northwest corner of 109th Avenue and Rose Garden Lane.
Peoria City Council will make a final consideration May 17.
The upcoming annexation is one of several the city of Peoria has planned, officials say.
City Council, on March 22, approved a Pre-Annexation Development Agreement with the Arizona State Land Department, which recognized the benefits the annexation will have to the state trust, Planning Director Chris Jacques said.
Additionally, the pre-annexation agreement established framework for bringing forward this annexation and forthcoming entitlement cases.
Jacques said the parcel that will come before the council, known as Parcel B, is one of six state land parcels that are planned for annexation into the city. Most are located around the city’s future economic development corridor, Loop 303, the Bob Stump Memorial Parkway, named after the former Congressman.
The Arizona State Land Department is charged with managing state trust lands and resources to enhance value and optimize economic return for 13 trust beneficiaries, including K-12 public schools.
City council will also consider the fiscal year 2023 final budget.
The fiscal year 2023 proposed budget totals $783 million, which represents a 12.7% increase, or about a $40 million increase from last year’s budget.
Council will also consider the proposed Capital Improvement Program, a $1.1 billion plan to support various projects through fiscal year 2032.
Fiscal year 2023 will begin on July 1.
The capital budget for fiscal year 2023 is $286.5 million
representing an 18.4% increase over the fiscal year 2022 plan, largely driven by new projects, construction costs and inflation.
The 10-year capital plan is fiscally balanced, meaning the capital and operating costs of each project have an identified funding source based on reliable revenues, officials say.
