BLVD Lake opens in Avondale’s Park Avenue District

Park features a koi pond, splash pad, bridges and fountain

The city of Avondale has unveiled The BLVD Lake, a green space featuring a fountain, half-acre lake, koi pond, two pedestrian bridges and a splash pad.

Located at the southeast corner of 114th Avenue and City Center Drive, the area provides a walkable attraction for visitors to Avondale’s Park Avenue District at The BLVD, a mixed-use attraction still being developed.

The lake area’s lit walking path allows residents and visitors to enjoy the water feature day or night.

The destination also serves adjacent amenities, including neighboring apartment complexes, housing communities, and guests of nearby hotels at The BLVD. Visitors are invited to enjoy the area, especially when the splash pad opens in April with the arrival of warmer weather.

“Whether you’re coming to The BLVD to participate in sports tournaments at the Randall McDaniel Sports Complex, staying at one of the hotels in Avondale, or simply looking for a scenic spot for passive recreation, The BLVD Lake feature is a great attraction,” said Ken Chapa, Avondale Economic Development and Tourism Director.

The $5.1 million water feature area was designed by J2 Engineering and constructed by Willmeng Construction. The project broke ground in April 2021 and was completed in less than a year. Other recently installed features at The BLVD are new 3-D entryway signs and a digital marquee.

“We’re very thankful to be a part of this beautiful new addition to the City of Avondale,” said James Murphy, CEO of Willmeng Construction. “There were a lot of supply chain challenges to navigate in this global pandemic environment, but the whole team was amazing and we can see the incredible results here. The future is bright for The BLVD, the vision is really strong, and city leadership is working together to maximize the potential that exists here.”
