Battery storage facility aims to boost grid reliability in Goodyear

The Pluto Energy Storage Center is now operating in Goodyear, adding a major piece of energy infrastructure designed to strengthen grid reliability and support the city’s rapid growth.

Developed by NextEra Energy Resources in collaboration with Arizona Public Service, the 75-megawatt battery storage facility stores electricity during periods of low demand and discharges it during peak usage, particularly during Arizona’s extreme summer heat. Company officials said the project reflects long-term planning to meet rising energy needs across the region.

NextEra Energy Resources Vice President Jim Shandelov said the facility plays a critical role in managing energy demand as the city and state continue to grow.
