Salad and Go customers were lined up for lobby service and in the drive-thru Aug. 5 in Glendale after the chain announced its shutdown the day prior. An auction shows the owners of 7 Brew Coffee had the winning bid to buy 73 stores, including 41 in Arizona, for about $143.18 million, according to federal bankruptcy court documents filed Sept. 1.
An Arkansas-based drive-thru coffee chain made the winning bid for 73 former Salad and Go locations in a bankruptcy auction Monday, including 41 in Arizona.
According to documents from U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Southern Texas, 7 Brew outbid Tempe-based Dutch Bros. for the 73 locations, and will pay $143.18 million.
That bid was greater than Dutch Bros.’ $105 million offer, initially announced in early August as the apparent only bid.
Dutch Bros. chose not to raise its bid and will act as a backup in case the 7 Brew agreement cannot be completed, court documents state.
The sellers — known as And Go Concepts LLC on court documents — must pay a termination fee of more than $4.3 million if they decide to rescind the sale.
Any additional leases and contracts included in the successful bid that were not previously noticed under the bulk sale motion will be heard at a second-sale hearing on Sept. 21, documents state.
Salad and Go was started as a family concept in Gilbert in 2013 by Tony and Roushan Christofellis. They sold the company in 2022 and currently operate Angie’s.
Many Valley communities were home to multiple Salad And Go locations. There were three Salad and Go locations in Chandler, at Queen Creek and Gilbert roads, along with two along Chandler Boulevard, at Kyrene Road and at Dobson Road.
Dutch Bros. has even more dense store coverage across the Valley, in some places. In fact, the shuttered Queen Creek / Gilbert roads Salad and Go location is in the middle of a shopping center that has a Dutch Bros. at one end and an Angie’s at the other end.
The owners announced bankruptcy filings Aug. 4, with Aug. 5 as Salad and Go’s last day of operation. Long lines were seen at several Valley locations in lobbies and in drive-thrus Aug. 5.
Dutch Bros., while now headquartered in Tempe, was started in Oregon in the early 1990s. The 7 Brew chain is drive-thru only, with its first store opening in Arkansas in 2017, quickly expanding and celebrating the opening of its 777th store in June.
7 Brew currently only shows two Tucson locations in Arizona on its website, along with a store planned on Ocotillo Road in Queen Creek.
On Aug. 12, 7 Brew launched a mobile ordering app. In addition to coffee and energy drink varieties, its online menus also include teas, chai, matcha, lemonades, smoothies and shakes. Fizz sodas are another signature item.
Here are the Arizona Salad and Go locations listed alongside Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas counterparts, in court documents as part of the 7 Brew purchase:
