Amanda Wade is mainitaining her early lead in the race for two governing board seats in the Higley Unified School District.
Wade has 27% of the vote on 8,247 votes. The second spot, however is tight among Anna Van Hoek (26%) and Brooke Garrett (24%) and Roy Morales (23%). The difference between Van Hoek and Garrett is 545 votes.
Wade said she hopes the margin is enough to hold on.
"I taught Government for 10 years, so I feel like I'm used to watching elections," she said. "Part of me goes, I don't want to get my hopes up too soon because I understand the demographics of who votes day of and mailing ballots and all that jazz."
The four candidates are vying for two seats on the governing board. The race has no incumbents running for re-elected as President Amy Kaylor and Board Member Jill Wilson opted not to run again.
The results reflect early voting. The count was 24,305 after overnight drops and a turnout of 46.71%. Final unofficial results may not be known until Friday. The results become official when the canvass is accepted.
