‘Radiance’ development in south Apache Junction to have namesake roadway

Posted

A street in south Apache Junction has been renamed to match the name of the surrounding masterplanned housing subdivision.

The Apache Junction City Council voted unanimously May 2 on changing the street to Radiance Avenue as part of a consent agenda with other items. Vice Mayor Robert Schroeder was absent.

Four final plats and a map of dedication for Reverence at Superstition Vistas by D.R. Horton — now known as Radiance — were approved by the City Council in August. The plats had lot sizes between 4,400 and 6,000 square feet for a total of 439 lots.

Road improvements for Radiance Avenue, the east-west midsection road, will be constructed with the first phase of construction, Interim Planning Manager Sidney Urias wrote in a memo to the council.

“On Jan. 17, 2023, D.R. Horton submitted a map of dedication for Phase 1B; since then, the name of the community has changed from Reverence to Radiance. Consequently, D.R. Horton has elected to rename Solina Avenue to Radiance Avenue,” he said.

Radiance Avenue will be dedicated to — and maintained — by the city of Apache Junction, according to the map of dedication.

Also in the consent agenda, the City Council approved:

  • a request by D.R. Horton for a map of dedication for Meridian Road, Radiance Avenue, Reverence Road and Ray Avenue. The proposed roadways will serve as access to the development of Radiance at Superstition Vistas Phase 1A. The road improvements will be constructed with the first phase of construction.
  • a request by Brookfield ASLD 8500 LLC for a final plat for infrastructure for Ray Avenue Phase 2. It is for property between the Warner and Ray avenue alignments, Ironwood Drive and the Idaho Road alignment.

A total of 2,783.13 acres of state trust land south of Apache Junction sold for $245.5 million to Arlington, Texas-based homebuilder D.R. Horton in a live auction Nov. 4, 2020. D.R. Horton is partnering with Brookfield Residential Properties Inc. to develop about half the auction property. K-12 schools were the beneficiary of the land sale between Elliot and Ray roads and from Meridian east about 2 miles.
