By OUAZ Sports Information
For the first time in program history, the OUAZ men's basketball team is headed to the postseason after the Spirit was awarded the No. 3-seed for next week's NCCAA DI Men's Basketball National Championship.
Grace College will host the eight-team event from March 17-20 at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center in Winona Lake, Indiana.
OUAZ will play No. 6-seed Southwestern Christian in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. (AZ). The Spirit qualified as the highest-rated team from the NCCAA West Region with an 11-5 overall record. Southwestern Christian from Bethany, Oklahoma, won the NCCAA Central Region Tournament to qualify and the Eagles have a 6-9 record this season.
The meeting will be the first-ever between the two programs.
Teams are guaranteed three games at the tournament, but can not win the championship once they lose. The winner between OUAZ and Southwestern Christian will play the winner of No. 2-seed Columbia International and No. 7-seed Alice Lloyd on Thursday at 4 p.m. (AZ). The championship game is on March 20 at 2 p.m. (AZ).
Grace College is the tournament's No. 1 seed and they will play No. 8-seed SAGU American Indian College in the first round. The NO. 4-seed is Northwestern (Minn.) and they will open against No. 5-seed Lancaster Bible.
Every game of the NCCAA National Championship will be broadcast live on The NCCAA Network (fees apply). A limited number of tickets are also available for each game. More information on tickets and live video can be found on the NCCAA Championship website.
