Goodyear police receives 3 grants for enforcement

Posted

The Goodyear Police Department received three grants.

The traffic unit received a $50,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the purpose of DUI enforcement, overtime, public education events and “Know Your Limit” campaigns for the 2024 fiscal year.

The goal of the impaired driving program is to reduce incidents of fatalities and injury as a result of alcohol and drug-related driving.

Officers will engage in enforcement, education, and public awareness throughout the year.

The traffic unit received a $4,678 grant to purchase nighttime crime scene lighting to enhance accident investigation enforcement throughout the city for the 2024 fiscal year.

This lighting is necessary equipment to process scenes, and conduct thorough and professional investigations, which lead to successful prosecutions. This could also be an asset to other West Valley Departments and vehicular crimes units, some of whom don’t have nighttime lighting capabilities.

The traffic unit also received a $30,000 STEP grant for the enforcement of speeding violations, aggressive driving, red light running and other forms of risky driving behaviors for the 2024 fiscal year.

Officers will engage in enforcement, education and public awareness throughout the year, working multi-jurisdictional task forces for speeding, aggressive driving and distracted driving. Officers will have a high presence within school zones as well.
