A group of parents plan to launch a Northwest Valley girls lacrosse team through the Arizona Girls Youth Lacrosse league this fall.
The AZGYL seaason starts in September and the new group is having a free preseason meet and greet clinic from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at Sierra Verde Park, 7130 W. Potter Drive, Glendale. Girls in grades K–8 for the 2026-27 school year from throughout the Northwest Valley are welcome.
The startup team will rely on word of mouth to grow, parent and coach Brandon King said. He coached his young daughter, Sydney, the last few years in Ahwatukee.
Her school closed and the family decided to move to the Arrowhead area. The nearest girls lacrosse club is in Anthem, so King said he reached out to the Arrowhead Warriors boys club.
He said he learned from the club president that several girls were showing up for the Warriors, wanting to play on the boys team if no girls squad was available.
