A memorial service for slain Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk will take place Sunday in Glendale, and Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said Friday her office will “defend the rights of those who come to mourn or protest peacefully.”
Mitchell said the memorial provides a time for Maricopa County residents “to step up and show the nation - and the world - that we value dignity, civility and the rule of law.”
The event is planned for 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive, Glendale. Doors will open at 8 a.m.
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during a rally at Utah State University on Sept. 10. He was known for traveling to college campuses around the country and debating college students.
His work at the Phoenix-based Turning Point was considered instrumental in getting President Donald Trump elected to a second term in 2024.
“It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk. On Sunday, thousands will gather at State Farm Stadium to pay their respects. Others may choose to express their views through protest. Both are protected expressions in our republic,” Mitchell said in Friday’s statement.
“Let us honor Charlie Kirk’s memory and the blessings of liberty not with division or disruption, but with peace and respect for others.”
