Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps announced that former Assistant City Manager Jack Friedline will be returning to the city in the same role after retiring from Glendale in September 2018. He will begin work with the city on Monday, April 6.

Before his former appointment to assistant city manager in September 2017, Mr. Friedline served as the director of the Glendale Public Works Department.

“The city of Glendale is fortunate to have Mr. Friedline return for many reasons, including the fact

that he brings with him a significant level of experience,” Mr. Phelps said. “Jack can hit the ground running in this role and his positive attitude and vision toward the future makes him the type of leader that this organization will continue to thrive under.”

As one of two assistant city managers, Mr. Friedline will oversee four city departments including: Field Operations, Transportation Services, Engineering and Water Services.

Mr. Friedline has over 40 years' experience in public service and has held positions in various communities. His titles include being public works commissioner in Buffalo, New York, public works director for the city of Phoenix and an assistant city manager for the city of Mesa. He also served as public works director in the city of Goodyear followed by an appointment to be city manager there. He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Buffalo State University.

"I continue to be excited by the strategic direction of Glendale and I’m grateful for the opportunity to return," Mr. Friedline said. "I look forward to rejoining city staff as we all work together to improve the lives of the people we serve every day."
