OPINION — Glendale is a place where people put down roots. Many of our seniors worked hard for decades, raised families here and chose to retire in the West Valley because it felt like a community they could rely on.
As a member of the Glendale City Council, I spend a lot of time with seniors at Coffee with a Councilman, townhalls and community events. I hear the same message again and again. Seniors want to stay in Glendale. They want to age in place, close to their doctors, their families and the neighborhoods they helped build.
That is why Glendale needs a real, intentional strategy to support seniors as they age. Too often, the default outcome is that older adults are forced to leave the city for care facilities outside our boundaries, not because they want to, but because the support systems are not in place here. We can and must do better.
