Glendale Community College will reopen its Soleri Amphitheater with a free concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 28.
The amphitheater, designed by famed architect Paolo Soleri, at the college, 6000 W. Olive. Ave., will once again be filled with music after a long period of non-use and refurbishment.
The GCC Performing Arts department will present an evening of music performed by students, and led by faculty. The evening will include performances from the following GCC musical groups:
WW5
Clarinet Quartet
Trumpet Ensemble
Chamber Singers
A cappella Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble
Guitar Studio Soloist
Mariachi Ensemble
Jazz Combo
Pop Ensemble
Brass Quintet
Community members, students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this special event. Guests can bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages, plus Simons Hot Dogs food truck will be selling food and beverages starting at 6:30.
The venue features a lawn area so attendees can set out blankets and bring lawn/camp chairs.
Completed in 1996, the Soleri Amphitheater was funded by the Evening Student Government with additional backing coming from the Fine Arts Commission. Recently GCC allocated funds to update the infrastructure and improve the landscaping and hardscaping in and around the venue.
The amphitheater is located on the northwest corner of the Glendale Community College main campus, next to the GCC football stadium. Ample parking is located immediately to the north and the east of the amphitheater.
