Sun Valley Animal Shelter, a longtime staple of the West Valley’s rescue community, has closed amid financial challenges and employees saying they were given little warning.
The shelter at 7150 N. 110th Ave. in Glendale had a meeting with employees March 25 and informed them Phoenix-based HALO Animal Rescue would be taking over.
But employees Ashley Hodge and Megan Schmitz said their now-former board president left midway through the meeting, when they learned they were out of jobs immediately and HALO representatives — thinking the employees knew more about the sale — brought in carriers to start transporting cats to its Phoenix shelter.
