A discussion on merely approving a decision to move forward on contracting out to design a potential new school that may or may not be built was a reminder of one of the touchier subjects a school district can take on.
The Deer Valley Unified School District governing board at its Dec. 8 meeting voted 3-2 to award a pre-construction services contract for a potential new elementary school. The contract would cover architect fees to design a new campus that could be open to students near the Stetson Valley community of North Phoenix, near 55th Avenue and Happy Valley Road, as early as August of 2022.
Deputy Superintendent Jim Migliorino used a cautionary analogy to dating when it came to the preliminary discussion as “asking somebody to be married. We’re not married yet.”
