Dog adoption fees waived this week at Maricopa County shelters

Those 6 months and older available for free through Aug. 27

There’s never a bad time to adopt a dog from a shelter, but this week is especially good.

Adoption fees through Maricopa County Animal Care & Control are waived for dogs 6 months and older from now through Sunday, Aug. 27.

The county is joining NBCUniversal and Telemundo in the annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign. The initiative aims to promote animal welfare, and since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 860,000 pets find new homes.

This is the ninth consecutive year NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations and animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and raise money for animal welfare.

“We are excited to bring back Clear the Shelters, which is a wonderful campaign to promote animal welfare and help us get more animals into their forever homes,” Kim Powell, MCACC’s communications officer, shared in a Monday press release. “Our shelter has been operating beyond our capacity and we are confident the Clear the Shelters event will help us tremendously.”

If now is not the right time to adopt, there are many other ways to help MCACC, including fostering, volunteering, and donating.

The West Valley Animal Care Center is located at 2500 S. 27th Ave., in Phoenix, and the East Valley Animal Care Center is at 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway, in Mesa.

Adoptions, admissions, and business hours at both locations are from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

For information call 602-506-7387 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
