Typically, a runner who finished fifth and sixth in his division in the state cross country meet as a sophomore and junior, respectively, prepares for the chance to win a state and/or district title.
That will be a Herculean task for Deer Valley senior Daequan Tigue this fall. In those two races, he will compete with the three fastest distance runners in the state.
A Deer Valley Unified School District title is more within the realm of possibility. But even there, O’Connor junior Gabriel Lucero and Mountain Ridge senior Jakob Burke posted top times nearly 30 seconds lower this season.
