Crews to begin new well work in north Glendale this week

The city of Glendale has contracted with MGC Contractors to drill a well on the north side of Sierra Verde Park on the city’s north side, with work starting this week.

Sierra Verde Park is located at 21000 N. 71st Ave., and drilling will take place at approximately Rose Garden Lane and 71st Avenue. The project will expand Glendale’s water resource portfolio to add resiliency in providing water to residents.

Contractor crews have mobilized to the construction and staging area, and have installed the temporary sidewalk for pedestrian access around the site during drilling. Scheduled to take place the week of July 5, crews will construct a “pull-out” access point on the west side of 71st Avenue to minimize traffic impacts during hauling activities that support the drilling process, according to city councilmember Lauren Tolmachoff, who represents the Cholla District, where the work will take place.

In addition, crews will install the temporary 24-foot sound walls around the construction area to minimize noise to the neighborhood during drilling. During this work, crews will also install the well casing.

Drilling activities are scheduled to begin Monday, July 11, and take 6 to 8 weeks to complete. Well drilling is a 24/7, day and night activity to minimize issues with the drill rig or subsurface conditions.

Light equipment will be used to maintain a safe work zone during night hours, and will be directed away from residences to the extent possible.

Sierra Verde Park and nearby roads will remain open during this work, and resident, pedestrian and park access will be maintained.
