Gorman & Company, Governor Katie Hobbs and Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers, celebrate the grand opening of Centerline on Glendale, Arizona’s first affordable housing community financed using state low-income housing tax credits. at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at 6775 N. 67th Ave.
This development was made possible through Arizona’s new state tax credit program, established by the Arizona Legislature with the passage of bi-partisan S.B. 1124 in July 2021.
Centerline on Glendale brings 368 units of mixed-income housing just south and west of the city's downtown.
“Centerline on Glendale is more than just housing—it’s a foundation for stability and opportunity for Glendale residents. By creating safe, affordable homes, we are empowering families to build brighter futures, access better jobs, and become active participants in their community,” Brian Swanton, President & CEO of Gorman & Company, stated in a press release.
Designed to serve a resident base including families, seniors, veterans and individuals with disabilities, the development offers quality, affordable housing for households earning between 0% and 80% of the area median income.
Rents range from $476 per month for the most affordable one-bedroom unit to $2,054 per month for the highest-priced three-bedroom unit.
“This project has been incredible from start to finish and we are thankful to Gorman & Company and partners for bringing this to life,” Weiers stated. “Our city identified affordable housing as one of our top priorities, and this project has brought those new homes to our community. The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) ‘s major priority is to find affordable housing. We are in step with them and gladly accepted the challenge of offering more options to our community.”
Residents will have modern amenities and community-focused features, including on-site supportive services, a splash pad, a dog park, a business incubation space, a fitness center, a 13-acre walking path and electric vehicle charging stations.
Centerline on Glendale is also located near Glendale High School and public transit routes. Additionally, Local First Arizona operates an on-site commercial kitchen, fostering entrepreneurship among local food-based businesses.
“We are thrilled to open our fifth community kitchen in the Valley to help up-and-coming chefs launch new restaurants and catering companies, while creating jobs and strengthening our local economy,” Local First Arizona’s Food Entrepreneurship Director Gabe Gardner, said. “Children and families who live at Centerline also will be able to enjoy cooking and nutrition classes and choose food staples free of charge to ensure all residents have the opportunity to eat good food and stay healthy.”
