The big plays came like bolts out of the blue in the early season.
Cactus senior wide receiver/kick returner Robert “Junior” Bell raced 82 yards for a touchdown on a boundary screen in the opener at Mountain Ridge, then caught at 57-yard touchdown pass. In the next week’s 28-27 win over Millennium he scored all four Cactus touchdowns — on a 46-yard run, a 20-yard touchdown reception and two kickoff return touchdowns, both from 98 yards out.
Bell, called Junior by most of the Cobras, was the breakout player of the early season. He also was making up for lost time after a transfer and injury.
