Arbor Day event invites Glendale residents to tree planting

More than 100 Sierra Verde STEAM Academy third-graders, teachers and parents will attend the City of Glendale Annual Arbor Day Celebration 9 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at Sierra Verde Park, 71st Avenue and Rose Garden Lane.
The public is invited to attend this event, one of many held in conjunction with the Arbor Day Foundation across the country.
Following the reading of the official Arbor Day Proclamation, there will be a special presentation by the Glendale Woman’s Club as well as a presentation for the national Tree City USA program, which the City of Glendale has achieved for 23 years running, from the Arizona State Forestry Division.
The interactive part of the day will include the students visiting educational stations, with participation by various city departments and divisions, including:
• Parks Division, demonstrating how to plant trees and letting students participate in the planting of four trees within Sierra Verde Park
• Right of Way Division, providing static displays of equipment used to care for trees and landscaping in city rights of way
• Water Services Department, providing hands-on tree care and water conservation curriculum
• Recycling Division, demonstrating how recycling can prevents trees from being destroyed and what consumer items are made from recycled paper
