All three Deer Valley Unified School District seniors to make the semifinal stage of the Flinn Scholarship reached the final stage.

On Jan. 29 The Flinn Foundation announced the 36 finalists for the Flinn Scholarship. The three DVUSD students are:

  • Zahrah Ralph, a Mountain Ridge High School senior from Peoria.
  • Brendan Salisbury, a Barry Goldwater High School senior from Desert Hills.
  • Yameen Sekandari, a Mountain Ridge High School senior from Glendale.

The Flinn Scholarship is valued at over $130,000 and funds tuition, housing, meals at an Arizona public university and two experiences to study abroad.

The Flinn Scholars Class of 2024 will be announced by the Flinn Foundation in April.

Flinn Scholarship Finalists represent 30 traditional public, charter, and private high schools across Arizona.

Six high schools have two Finalists each—Arizona College Prep High School in Chandler, Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson, Maricopa High School in the city of Maricopa, Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, and University High School in Tucson.

The Flinn Scholarship is not just based on academic achievement, and recognizes students from all walks of life and educational interests. Merit and willingness to be a changemaker in the world are the main deciding factors for Flinn Scholars.

Now in its 39th year, the scholarship is supported by the Phoenix-based Flinn Foundation in partnership with the three state universities. The Flinn Scholars represent public district and charter high schools.
