To support the needs of public school students this holiday season and going into the new year, Sonic Drive-In donated $300,000 this month as part of its Limeades for Learning initiative to fund classroom projects submitted by local teachers across communities.
Funded by a portion of Sonic drink purchases, the donation supported exceptional teachers’ projects via DonorsChoose, a platform that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests, according to a news release.
Nine classroom projects at eight Glendale schools were among the funding:
Ms. Leavitt at Academy Math & Science-Glendale, 4540 W. Glendale Ave., for the project Night Hawk Closet
Ms. S. at Barcelona Elementary School, 6530 N. 44th Ave., for the project Hats & Gloves to Keep Us Warm!
Mrs. Gorsuch at Challenger Middle School, 6905 W. Maryland Ave., for the project Clean Healthy Classroom!
Ms. Zerufael at Challenger Middle School, 6905 W. Maryland Ave., for the project Snacking like Stellar Students!
Mr. Joe at Heritage Elementary School-Glendale, 5312 W. Mountain View Road, for the project The Heritage Habitat
Mrs. Tormollan at Luke Elementary School, 7300 N. Dysart Road, for the project Feeding the Minds
Mrs. Simmons at Sunburst Elementary School, 14218 N. 47th Ave., for the project School Snacks
The donations focused on funding classroom projects meant to improve the lives of students both in and out of the classroom. From gloves and scarves to keep students warm to healthy snacks to eliminate hunger and keep them focused throughout the school day, these special teacher-submitted requests each look to provide children with comfort whether they’re at school or at home.
Teachers not currently enrolled in the Teachers’ Circle Rewards Program can join by updating their profile setting in the SONIC App.
Sonic’s Limeades for Learning initiative has donated more than $23 million to fund local classrooms since the program began in 2009.
