Outside community members also visited the show and enjoyed a barbecue lunch, entertainment and a chance to vote for their favorite vehicle with the residents. 

The occasion is the second in a series of events at The Watermark at Morrison Ranch called, “What’s on your Bucket List?” The events are inspired by residents, who share experiences or achievements they wish to accomplish with the community. 

Car enthusiast and resident Chuck Shafer was the inspiration for the “Best in Show” event. Shafer has been tinkering with vehicles before he could drive and has bought, repaired and customized more than 130 vehicles.  

Shafer said he has an appreciation for all cars, but especially classic, American muscle ones such as Mustangs, Camaros and GTOs.

Shafer, 65, recently purchased a fire-engine red 1964 Mercury Comet and is excited to get to work with customizations and repairs, including exhaust work, polishing the wheels and replacing the tires.

“Chuck is so knowledgeable when it comes to cars,” said Rebecca Mitchell, community life director at Morrison Ranch. “We love creating moments for our residents to remember forever. Our ‘What’s on your Bucket List?’ events are inspired by the residents, who we want to help live life to the absolute fullest and have fun while doing it.” 

Shafer said he enjoyed the event, especially talking with the classic car owners about caring for their vehicles. 

“Some people can take a rusty bucket and turn it into a show car,” Shafer said. “Car shows display creativity. So many people customize their vehicles in the most fabulous ways. Attending a show is a learning experience.”
