Higley schools launch Food Haul food truck program

Posted

Higley Unified School District, in partnership with Chartwells K12, has launched the Food Haul Food Truck, a mobile dining program that will serve students and families at campuses and district events.

Operated by Chartwells K12, the district's food service provider, the truck offers a variety of meal and snack options that meet K-12 nutrition standards. District officials said the program is intended to expand food choices available to students and provide an alternative dining option during select school activities.

Menu items include the Knight Burger and Blackhawk Burger, build-your-own burgers, hot dogs, Philly cheesesteaks, wings, parfaits, beverages and frozen treats. According to the district, many menu items are eligible for student lunch purchases.

The food truck is scheduled to visit middle and high school campuses during select lunch periods and will also appear at athletic events, school celebrations and other district gatherings.

"This is another way we can help enhance the student experience," Alan Fields, Higley Unified School District's executive director of secondary education, said in a statement. "The signature burgers are named for our high school mascots. Students get excited about our food truck days, and this provides a fun, engaging way to build school spirit while serving great food."

District officials said the Food Haul Food Truck will serve students and families throughout the school year at campuses and special events.
