Gilbert puts 'Slip into Spring' public art on display in Heritage District

Posted

Visitors to Gilbert’s Heritage District can  check out downtown’s new public art installation, Slip into Spring, starting April 1.

This pop-up experience will be set up on Hearne Way, east of Gilbert Road, featuring a banana-themed rest stop in downtown Gilbert.

The modular banana is 8 feet tall by 13 feet wide and features a variety of seating options to bask in the glow of the day’s rays or sit under hoop lights at night.

The Town of Gilbert is partnering with Austin-based LeMonde Studios on the installation in the core of the district. LeMonde Studios specializes in green entertainment combining interactive art with fun.

The installation features a peeled banana with seating for up to six guests and an adjacent single banana seat that accommodates up to three persons.

Part of the installation is a mushroom crank-powered music box featuring the sounds of Gilbert Symphony Orchestra. The featured song, titled Cowboys, features a Southwestern-inspired tune.

"Slip into Spring" will be on display April 1-May 2. The town is encouraging the community to share their social media posts and photos with friends and family to encourage visitation to the district and tag #DiscoverGilbert.

Merchant specials and other spring-inspired offerings are promoted on DiscoverGilbert.com, the town's tourism site.
