With Gilbert Public Schools starting its 2025-26 school year Tuesday, Gilbert Police completed a goal to have an officer at each public school district campus in town for its first day back.
Members of the department were out to greet students at the Gilbert campuses of schools in GPS, Higley Unified School District and Chandler Unified School District. Those participating included Youth Community Engagement Officer Emily King and Police Chief Michael Soelberg.
“Ensuring every public elementary school in Gilbert had an officer present on the first day wasn’t just about security; it was about building trust and engaging with our community,” Officer Travis Sheppard said. “We wanted students, parents, and staff to feel supported, welcomed and safe from the moment they walked onto campus.”
