Discover Gilbert, the town's tourism initiative, is encouraging holiday spending take place close to home as part of its "Shop Small, Celebrate Big" campaign.

A website, www.discovergilbert.com/shopgilbert, will highlight holiday promotions and list ways residents and visitors can support small business starting Nov. 30, kicking off national Small Business Saturday, part of the post-Thanksgiving retail weekend.

In addition to sharing information this holiday season on retail-related events, markets and special merchant supplied offers, Discover Gilbert is promoting a new digital Shop Gilbert Guide.

The web-based passport functions on any mobile device, and people that check-in via GPS to any of the locations listed are eligible to earn points for prizes.

Guests can sign up for the Shop Gilbert Guide online, and browse the digital listings which highlight boutiques, retail shops and small business locales by name and category.

Guests that visit any of the 50-plus locations and check-in on their mobile device while there will earn points. The more points earned, the more prizes they are eligible to win.

Discover Gilbert curated the prize collection and worked with creative teams at Cactus Country and Why I Love Where I Live on the giveaway items which feature stickers, patches and t-shirts.

No purchase is necessary to participate or download the digital passport. Prizes are available while supplies last.

Discover Gilbert is also supporting the Shop Small, Celebrate Big campaign with marketing support reaching statewide visitors and regional drive markets targeting visiting friends and family crowds during the holiday season.
