Sunburst Shutters industrial building planned at Val Vista, Thomas in Mesa

Posted

A 27,790-square-foot Sunburst Shutters industrial building is to be constructed on 2 acres west of Val Vista Road on the north side of Thomas Road in Mesa.

The development’s look and landscaping were discussed Feb. 13 by the Mesa Design Review Board. Vice Chair Dane Astle was absent.

The site is currently vacant, Staff Planner Kwasi Abebrese said during the meeting.

“The proposed site plan shows a 27,000-square-foot industrial building with a truck dock and loading area located at the rear of the building — specifically on the north side. This area will be screened with an 8-foot-tall masonry wall,” he said. “Access to the site is provided from North Thomas Road, specifically at the south side of the project site.”

Scott Puente is the applicant. Mesa Thomas LLC is the owner.

The industrial building is to be constructed at 3336 E. Thomas Road, according to a written project narrative from Upward Architects.

“This submittal consists of an office and processing for a national window covering/treatment service provider,” it states. “The building will provide a sleek and modern design façade with vertical articulation and building mass projection consistent with the city of Mesa design guidelines.”

The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
