Rundgren on his way to Chandler’s Wild Horse Pass

Posted

Producer, songwriter and guitarist Todd Rundgren is coming to Chandler.

His solo tour’s fall leg comes to Wild Horse Pass Casino on Thursday, Nov. 13.

The tour, titled “Still Me, (Still We)”, is what Rundgren describes as an extension to the last leg of his 2024 “Me/We” Tour, according to a news release.

“The show is kind of a story with a message. Even though a year has passed, I still think the story needs to be told,” he said in the release.

The tour’s summer leg ran through a busy late June and most of July, and after three dates in late August, it picks up again Nov. 10 in Tucson and ends in just before Thanksgiving in southern California.

Rundgren’s band for the Still Me, (Still We) tour will feature Gil Assayas, on keys, Bruce McDaniel and Rundgren on guitar, Prairie Prince on drums, Bobby Strickland on horns and Kasim Sulton on bass.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front The Nazz, the quintessential 1960s psychedelic group, the release states. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut LP “Runt.” But it was 1972’s “Something/Anything?,” on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that Rundgren’s career took off.

“Hello It’s Me,” and “Bang The Drum” are probably his most recognized hits.

Rundgren’s myriad production projects include albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meat Loaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall and Oates. He also composed all the music and lyrics for a 1989 off-Broadway production and the music for the hit film Dumb and Dumber, as well as some television series, including Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Crime Story.

Rundgren has toured with Ringo Starr as an erstwhile member of the All-Starr Band since 1989 and was the frontman, alongside two original members of The Cars, in an early-2000s reincarnation known as The New Cars.

After the release of his autobiography The Individualist, he went on hybrid concert/book tour highlighting music across his 50-plus-year career.

The release also states he was the first on several technology fronts, including his 1993 release of “No World Order”, the world’s first interactive record album on CD-i.

Rundgren was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
