The Mesa City Council is set to vote on a rezoning ordinance to pave the way for a housing development at their Feb. 24 meeting.
Named Encanto by Blandford Homes, the request for the development was made by Pew & Lake, PLC on behalf of the Central Christian Church of Mesa, who owns the 11.25 acres of land the site plan sits on. The site plan is located approximately 1,550 feet east of the southeast corner of North Lindsay Road and East Encanto Street, according to council documents.
The Feb. 24 council meeting takes place at 20 E. Main St. and begins at 5:45 p.m.
The applicant is requesting the area be rezoned from Single Residence-9 (RS-9) to Single Residence-7 with a Planned Area Development Overlay (RS-7-PAD) for a single residence subdivision.
The development plan is 39 lots, most ranging in size from 7,800 to 8,500 square-feet. Council documents listed various planned amenities such as fenced pickleball courts, an active open space area, a swing set and more.
According to a council presentation, property owners near the site were notified and a neighborhood meeting was held on October 17. The meeting had 25 neighbors participate, with questions and concerns raised by neighbors about items such as home heights and access concern.
To address these concerns, the applicant agreed to restrict home heights along Encanto Street to one-story as well as work with the neighboring site and school to maintain school access.
