Medical offices, 5 homes OKed by Chandler P&Z

Posted

Two projects approved on a Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission meeting consent agenda earlier this month are likely to be up for Council approval in mid-November.

The board approved a consent agenda during its Oct. 15 meeting, 6-0, that included both a rezoning and preliminary development plan for a medical building and a preliminary plat approval and rezoning to build five homes together in south Chandler.

The two items were approved on a consent agenda that also included two code amendments meant to incorporate recently passed state laws.

The Cooper Road Medical and Retail Building is to be built on a 0.64-acre site along the west side of Cooper Road, just south of a Walgreens and a short distance south of Chandler Boulevard, next to where the Chandler Paseo Trail diagonally crosses Cooper Road.

Tumbleweed Estates is where five infill homes are to be built on a 5.02-acre former farm site at 1981 S. Tumbleweed Lane. It’s in a mostly developed residential area northeast of the intersection of Germann and Alma School roads, a short distance east of Compass Christian Church.

Both items were heard during a board study session held just before the Planning Commission’s regular Oct. 15 meeting. Only a handful of questions were asked of staff; no commissioners expressed major or complex concerns about either project.

The consent agenda is sometimes the only item on a Chandler planning and zoning regular-meeting slate. The Oct. 15 consent agenda was overshadowed by an AI data center propoasl’s lengthy hearing, presentations, recommendation vote and “federal pre-emption” threat from former U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.
