A multifamily development is to be constructed on 2.5 acres south of Main Street and west of Mesa Drive in Mesa.
The Mesa Design Review Board on Oct. 8 discussed the look and landscaping for the Legacy Square development. Board Chair Dane Astle was absent.
A 110-unit apartment building is planned, Staff Planner Jennifer Merrill said during the meeting.
“There is an amenity area that is tucked around on the interior corner of the building and that amenity area includes a pool and a ramada. There’s covered parking located on the site — there’s quite a bit. And there’s also on-street parking, which is for use by the residents and visitors to the site,” she said.
Travis Taylor of Westates Cos. is the applicant. Legacy Square Opzone LLC is the owner.
The four-story building is to be wrapped around a courtyard with outdoor and indoor amenities, according to a written project narrative.
“The first floor of the building will be constructed with the higher ceiling heights, such that the bottom floor could accommodate future commercial businesses,” it states. “Each apartment home has a private patio while the entrance and access to the homes are interior and more centrally located near the amenities and at either end of the building.”
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
