Chandler Unified teacher wins award from Fulton Homes

Posted

A music teacher at Casteel High School is Fulton Homes’ School Salute honoree for January.

Nathan Johnston was awarded a $1,000 check from Fulton Homes on Tuesday in front of students and staff.

Casteel High is in the Chandler Unified School District but is located in Queen Creek.

This is the sixth year Fulton Homes, in partnership with KOOL-FM, is recognizing music educators who make a lasting impact across the Valley.

Johnston has also recently been named a 2025 Educator of the Year nominee.

As a winning school, Casteel High music students will get the opportunity to record a rendition of the National Anthem to be played on the radio, the release continued.

“Music education helps students build skills that extend far beyond the classroom,” Doug Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes, stated in a press release. “Teachers like Mr. Johnston plays a vital role in shaping future leaders, and we are honored to recognize his dedication through the School Salute program.”

Recent data shows that In Arizona, about 30% of schools offer no arts instruction, and only 70% provide a single arts course, according to the release.

“Now, thousands of students risk never having access to music or the arts. These opportunities play a key role in developing creativity, discipline and confidence,” the release stated.
