Chandler school fields get new bleachers

Posted

An item approved by the Chandler Unified Governing Board at its Nov. 12 meeting will bring new bleachers to one high school.

Using a matching grant from the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, Perry High School will receive new fixed baseball and softball field aluminum bleachers. Also, as part of the project, Perry’s bleachers will moved to replace the existing baseball and softball field bleachers at Arizona College Prep High School.

Assistant Superintendent Tom Dunn explained the sports authority grant covers $250,000 of the project, with the district using $125,000 in 2019 bond funds to cover most of its share.

“Perry High School’s site fund will be used to pay for about $10,000 of this installation,” Dunn said.

Dunn said Perry, which opened in 2007, has reached capacity with its bleachers for baseball and softball and needs more seating. Arizona College Prep, which opened its Gilbert Road campus in 2021, still has minimal bleachers set up for those two sports.

“ACP currently has those five-tiered, rolled (on wheels) temporary bleachers,” Dunn explained.

The district also requested an additional $27,000 for “miscellaneous athletic equipment and repairs that may be needed for the remainder of the 2025-26 fiscal year,” in the contract, which the board agreed to include.
