Chandler leaders recognize Cesar Chavez Day contributors

Posted

Chandler leaders acknowledged, during the City Council’s May 19 study session, contributors to an annual community service project.

Priscilla Quintana, the city’s neighborhood enhancement coordinator, read the names of area businesses and other entities who made major in-kind donations to the event.

“For Our City” is an annual Chandler one-day community service project event, which was typically held in the fall. In 2024, the city also held a “Cesar Chavez Day” community garden rehabilitation and unity march across downtown.

In spring 2025, the city combined those two events, and will hold them in the spring going forward. March 31 is the late Cesar Chavez’s birthday.

On March 29 of this year, the main effort of For Our City Day event was major cleanup of the 141-home Pamela Park neighborhood, along the eastern side of downtown. It featured about 200 volunteers assisted with 43 projects involving yard work, alley clean-up and painting home exteriors.

Volunteers reported to help as early as 6:30 a.m.

The event was capped by city officials leading a unity walk down Hamilton Street to Zora Folley Park, where onstage live entertainment and acknowledgments took place and volunteers enjoyed a free catered light lunch.

Quintana, Mayor Kevin Hartke, community development and resources manager Riann Balch and Chandler Council member Jane Poston helped present awards and posed with a thank-you banner during the study session.
