Chandler employees participate in a public works competition earlier this year. The Chandler City Council approved a pair of contracts totaling $8.1 million at its Dec. 12 meeting for concrete work around many of its planned repaving projects.
A pair of contracts for concrete repair were among the many items the Chandler City Council approved the week of Dec. 13.
A pair of contracts, totaling more than $8.1 million, were awarded to Vincon Engineering Construction, LLC, and Temcon Concrete Construction, LLC.
Chandler Utilities and Public Works Director John Knudson told the council only $1.1 million for the concrete will come from bonds while the other $7 million will come from Highway User Revenue Fund, or HURF funds.
“It’s common practice that whenever a road is repaved, we also repair and replace any sidewalks, gutters, etc., that are damaged or don’t meet the current specifications of the Americans with Disabilities Act standards,” Knudson said.
Knudson said the $8.1 million is part of the council-approved $27.1 million street repaving program.
Council member Jane Poston said there was a recent problem involving neighbor notification of such concrete work, which tends to affect neighborhoods in more ways than simple repaving of roadways. But Poston, who didn’t identify what part of the city that problem occurred, said it appears to have been rectified.
