Carefree uses 70% of Colorado River allocations set for reduction

Arizona officials are awaiting final word from the federal government on an agreement that would reduce the state’s allocation of Colorado River water by 760,000-acre feet for two years.

The town of Carefree uses about 70% of the town’s CAP allocations and the Carefree Water Company delivers that water and ground water to residents.

“Looking ahead the Town will update landscaping codes and focus on education,” said Carefree mayor John Crane. “With 70% of residential water usage occurring outdoors, there are opportunities for meaningful water conservation. Longer term, to strengthen our water portfolio, the Town is working with the project to raise Bartlett Lake Dam.”
