The Cave Creek Museum, which opened the Arizona Gold Mining Experience five years ago, will be adding a new character to its program when the season opens on Oct. 1.
Local miner El Monty Jackson will be making his debut during the museum’s first Arizona Gold Mining Experience Oct. 24.
Jackson, a crusty old miner, previously was a well-to-do-gambler from back East, decided to leave the life and venture to Cave Creek to try his luck at searching for gold in the renowned mining district. Jackson is quite a character, and visitors of all ages are going to love his wild and quirky style. He will make you laugh and experience a day filled with memories and knowledge.
Tickets for the Arizona Gold Mining Experience are available online at cavecreekmuseum.org. Tickets are $20 for adults and children under 12 are free, and Culture Passes are not accepted for this event. Reservations are required for the experience, which begins with check-in at 9 a.m.
The 56-year-old 501(c)(3) museum’s mission is to preserve the artifacts of the prehistory, history, culture and legacy of the Cave Creek Mining District and the Cave Creek/Carefree foothills area through education, research, and interpretive exhibits.
The Cave Creek Museum is located at 6140 E. Skyline Dr. The museum is open from October through May. For more information call 480-488-2764.
